What's the point of going to school and getting an education to live the "American Dream," when others - who do nothing - are rewarded for just being a celebrity? Why don't we reward people who "actually" do something that makes the world better rather than partying and complaining when they don't get their way? Is this world so celeb driven that we should all change our ways to become celebrities so we don't have to work like "average people(no offense to anyone)?" What's your opinion?

I’m going to be as honest as I can to answer this question. We all know education is important, but when we look at today’s society and try to understand how people like Paris Hilton function, we tend to second guess that they are more successful – [better said] living the “American Dream” – than regular people who actually work for a living; this is when we start to envy the kind of lives they live and wonder how they obtained it. For example, why do you think many people audition for American Idol; is it for the sake of just being a singer or pop star? People want to be famous because they see the kind of lives celebrities have and want to have those same opportunities as they do: extraordinary life styles, fame, fortune, don’t have to worry about money matter, and nothing is unobtainable.

Now, for the education role, I believe education is falling in America because people don’t see its value. Ask school children what they want to be when they grow up and you’ll hear either fame or fortune. They have the impression that celebrities have the best life; that’s what the media tells them because they lack the education to know better. Take for instance, the Anna Nicole controversy that is going on now. This all could have been finished and she could have been buried next to her son; the media is just squeezing it for all it’s worth because they know society will buy into it. I believe education is there, but is misused for selfish purposes.

My advice to you is to negate all the news about celebrities and all their opinions on how you should live your life. Smart people, like me, know that buying into all this celebrity drama is just a waste of time and money. Why continue to buy worthless magazines on celebrities, indulge yourself on celebrity gossip, and idolize them as if they are more important then someone you actually knew or cared about? That’s the whole trick of the media to fool society and place them in a delusion that keeping up with celebrity news will make them “cool.” That’s how people get into debt fast because they want to be something their not. Get your education and live the live “you” want to live rather than how society wants you to live. That’s the “American Dream.”

Yes education is important. Some smart people and others who help the world are rewarded. It's not always about being rewarded though. Many people help just because they want to and they don't expect anything in return. As far as celebs go, they will always get special tratment but not everyone wants to be a celebrity.

Simply put, knowledge is power. The more you know, the farther you can get in life. Education is important and if you check, most celebs have a college degree. You have to be educated to be really successful, or very lucky. As far as working like "average people", celebs wish they had average jobs. They do more work in a month then most do with half a year. They do alot more than you see and work long hours. Celebs aren't stupid, you just see all the dumb things they do because of the media. My opinion, stay in school, get a degree, learn as much as you can.

The point is, not everyone can be a superstar. Famous people bring in more revenue, that is why they make the big bucks. For the rest of us there is school to strengthen our natural talents, so we can make our mark in the world.

Also, you may need to change what you watch on TV or listen to on the radio. While celebrities are everywhere, there are plenty other issues out there on intelligent stations like CNN, History Channel, Discovery, etc. Just because you limit your exposure does not mean life outside Paris Hilton does not exist.

The bottom line is, most celebrities fade away with time. But real people who make a REAL difference (police, teachers, doctors, military, etc.) are never forgotten. Which would you rather have?

I agree!
That is why I do not know most of the names people ask questions about here, I do not know who they are and I do not care.
That is also why I can honestly say the clothes and shoes people are so GaGa over look stupid to real people like me.
Those stupid ,pointed toed shoes are hilarious and I laugh every time I see a real working person wearing them! HELLO!! They look stupid!!! Tinkerbell with out the bell or the Evil Witch before her toes curl!! HA!

I am proud to work as an average person and I am rewarded daily for my efforts as an employee and as a Mom. The Mom part is very good because I do it myself without Nannies and/or Governess. As an employee I earn my keep with daily revenues using my brain not my name!

Education is the bridge that crosses to opportunity. Knowledge is power. It would not surprise me to find that the majority of readers of the 'entertainment focused' publications are 'smart'. As we live our lives and gain book smarts, as well as life experience and the knowledge that comes with it, we learn that it is not always about 'me', but about us and what I can do to make a difference for 'us'. This narcissistic mindset that is brainwashed into the minds of our youth by the actions of celebrities, is just a phase that will pass as one gets older and wiser. We still have to deal with the fallout and that is where good parenting skills are invaluable. Raise our children to be responsible adults.

Because we live in a very narrow minded, slouchy, shallow society (U.S.A.) and we don't have royalty here. Celebrities are the closest thing that U.S.A. citizens have to royalty.

It has more to do with jealousy and idolizing. Normal people get rewarded too, but their job isn't primarily to be in the spotlight and get noticed like celebrities are, so you hear about singers and actresses more.

Another point : people think that "stars" don't have any problems, because of the they way their publicity machines seem to "spin" them.

You make a very common point about liberalism in general. They are quick to spend more money expecting results, but not so quick to realize that after spending more the standards haven't gotten any better. How about we get back to basics, spend less and get our education system back on track by using our heads instead! That's the conservative position.

Education is not important in making big money unless you specialize in very select areas like medicine. But, for the most part highly educated people will earn a middle class income. The really big money is made by celebrities, as you already know. It is also made by the few people with entrepreneurial talent who succeed at their own businesses. It is also made by very social people with a gift for gab who succeed in sales, like successful real estate agents. And, it is also made by very lucky people who are at the right place at the right time with a concept that catches on.

I totally agree its not fair that the celebs get paid to do acting which any one can do, and the people who are trying to help the world and people just get a slap on the back. What is the world coming to?
