He had back to back 1200 yard seasons and was a big part of the team's success. Do you think Cedric Benson is the answer? I'm not entirely sold on him yet.

I wouldn't be sold on Benson AT ALL. The guy seems like a big lug (reminds me a little of Ron Dayne - I'm a Giants fan so he's still in my memory) and he's been injury prone.

I don't know what quality backup there is behind Benson but he better be good or else you'll be relying on Rex to win games. And you know how much that worked last season...

Initially, this looks pretty bad.

However, someone that is overlooked is the Bear's utility RB Adrian Peterson. His contract was extended for five seasons last year, which means that the Bears are going to bring him into the mix. His speed was almost equal to Jones's and also brought the power game into the equation the same way that Benson did. Peterson will become the #2 back in this unit and provide the change of pace opportunities on a regular basis.

As for swapping #2 spots and trading Jones, that was just a bad move. However, the Bears have been very solid in 2nd and later rounds when it comes to drafting players as of late. Look for Chicago to pick up a strong offensive lineman in the second round to add some depth and even rejuvenate a strong but aging unit.

The Bears will not be suffering as much as people expect. Remember, no one expected the Bears to make it through the playoffs and reach the Super Bowl and look what happened. This team will continue to ride on the defense's coattails for as long as possible.

No. Thomas Jones wanted to be traded and the Bears gave him what they wanted. Personally, I think *IF* they made a mistake doing anything, it was drafting Benson, when they had a RB like Jones already. Now-a-days you do need 2 RB to get through a season.. But you can't have a #4 overall pick and a proven RB on the same team for long(Also look at New England). This just proves that. I also think if benson can stay healthy, he will be a Pro Bowl RB. But that's the same "if" for all players. You aren't gonna be any good unless your playing.

I'm not sold on Benson either. By getting rid of Jones, the Bears let go of the only thing they had that slightly resembled an offense. They need to get better on the offensive side of the ball, defense will take you only so far.

Trick question.....Benson has no heart....he was in the biggest game of his life and he gold cold feet and faked an injury! Thomas Jones is not the greatest back in the world, serviceable, not great. Peterson is not that bad as a back up so there won't be a big drop off. I say it has no effect. It doesn't matter anyways until they make the defense Mike Brown proof and trade or draft for a top line d-end.

I'm worried Bears Management a Bad Move Trading Jones to the Jets.

It was a very bad move. Benson is like a Jamal Lewis-- except worse. If you watched him in the playoffs, you could see how bad he was. You might say, "That's because teams in the playoffs have great defenses", but when they brought in Thomas Jones, he always tore them up. Benson won't be able to get the job done.

Yes they will pay! Benson isn't an established starter in the NFL. Jones was their only offensive bright-spot in their playoff run last year. Without him, look for Rex to throw away even MORE games.

i havent seen much of benson and neither have bears fans really since hes always hurt or not playing. i know the bears arent stupid so they must really think benson is ready. actually scratch that, the bears are stupid because they traded jones and their 2nd round pick just to move up in the 2nd. that was so stupid. jones by himself is worth a 2nd round pick.
