Definitely no. He is one of the winningest coaches in college basketball right now. And unless A.D. Mitch Barnhart is planning on Pat Riley ascending from the NBA echelon or Billy Donovan suddenly developing a severe allergic reaction to swamp water, they could potentially make a mistake that could set the program back big time. I'm talking like San Diego Chargers type of goof up.
And if the big issue is recruiting then he needs a chance to at least clean house on his own basis and have a opportunity to get recruits in there. What people seem to forget is that 7 players either transferred from the team or left for the NBA last year. So with the exception of a few returning guys, he was essentially starting fresh.
They have also lost 7 games by 5 points or less this season and potentially 5 of those 11 losses could be to future #1 and #2 seeds in the NCAA tournament (Florida (x2), North Carolina, UCLA, and Memphis). They had the toughest schedule in the nation this year. And I'm sure we can all agree the days of one team or two teams dominating the SEC is over.
Your average Kentucky fan doesn't realize that the parody of College Basketball has caught up to UK. The team we had in 1996, is now being touted as a team that may never occur again in college basketball. Not just with Kentucky, but in ALL OF COLLEGE BASKETBALL. Players don't stay in school anymore, they jump to the NBA. And the ones that do stay (considering Florida is the very rare exception), want to be on a team where they're the soul center attraction. Kentucky Basketball used to be about playing for the name on the front of the jersey instead of the back. Unfortunately that doesn't seem to be the name of the game anymore.
Simply said, it's the boosters and the fans that are making the position of coaching the University of Kentucky almost unattainable. Fans have become greedy and it's on the verge of ruining the program. I just hope it doesn't come to that.
Tubby is 261-82 at Kentucky as of today, that's a 76% winning percentage. It doesn't get much better then that.
