I have learned it's a mistake not to go with my gut feeling. I've ignored it and been burned each time.

A true friend will understand your change of mind, AND you can find another way to show support, I am sure....

You are entitled to change your mind!!!!!
that's not really breaking a promise
you were only a child when you made the promise
even if you were an adult you can really change your mind
Explain to the person you love respect or what ever but you have this nagging feeling that's saying you don't feel right doing that thing anymore
Just be honest & explain fully how you feel because if something is saying to you don't do it
well thats your self intuition sort of warning you not to do it!! so don't

Weigh your choices. If you will be forever plagued for breaking your promise, then maybe you should do it. Sometimes our hearts act without our mind. If the person means more to you than your own discomfort, then it may be time to suck it up and do it. Hopefully, you will not regret your decision and you will positively affect your relationship with the other person. Good luck!

Tell this person how you feel. If this person really counts on you, they will probably listen to reason.

If you don't want to do it, then don't. Things change when you get older/wiser.
