How well are they refurbished? What is wrong with the majority of them? Do they offer the same warranty?

Being a new Mac is a worthless piece of crap in the first place I would say yes! Whats wrong with the majority of them? Only 5 percent of the computer buying market buys them! No software manufacturers waste time on Mac software because the software market is geared for windows!

No. If it's been refurbished, it's an older model. New ones will be faster and will last longer. On average a computer is out of date after 3 years. In fact, most parts can be expected to start failing after this amount of time. I'm not telling you to go get a new MAC. I'm just telling it like it is. I recently had to decide about upgrading our MAC or getting a new one. I went the cheap route and added some RAM and the new OS. In reality all I did was give us another 12 to 18 months before we would have to replace it. I'm still a PC guy mostly because that's what I work on all day but the MAC is a nice extra in my lab at home and the girlfriend likes it.

Usually ... yes. No matter what the product is.
Refurb could mean that someone bought a new one & retuned it an hour later .... because the box was opened it cannot be resold as new.

So ... they examine it & sell it as refurbished. I work for a PC manufacturer & know this to be a FACT.

The difference is more in the length of the warranty than anything else.

Get an extended warranty with the unit & you'll be as good as new .... so to speak.

refurbished is a fancy word for used. Usually broken/damaged or returned then worked on so it works. Sometimes there are no issues...sometimes though...
