I'm a super beginner knitter and I need an easy and FAST pattern for a hat. It needs to be finished by tomorrow afternoon for my friend's b-day. Nothing fancy, just a basic easy project. PLEASE HELP!! (Also, I only have circular needles since my double pointed ones are currently missing)

IF your friend is female, there's no reason you can't knit a quick hat. A large ball of chunky or bulky yarn, size 11 or 13 needles (dpns or a 16" circ), cast on 80 stitches, knit for 6 inches, then k6, k2tog around, knit one round even, k5, k2tog around, knit one round even, knitting a decrease round every other round with one less knit stitch between decreases and one round even until you have 8 stitches left, k2tog around, cut off, leaving a long tail, run that through the last 4 stitches, or graft them together (I'm a big fan of grafting) and weave your ends in. You end up with a nice roll brim hat, quick and simple.

I agree with the first answerer. Doing a hat by tomorrow afternoon isn't do-able. Especially since you are a "super beginner."

You might want to make a few hats and scarves and pack them away for such an occaision (I've done that). That way, next time you'll have one on hand.

When you are ready for that, take a look at www.knittingpatterncentral.com. There are tons of hat patterns, and I've used several.

Sorry, I'm sure that's not the advice you wanted.

I used chunky yarn and size 9 needles and was able to complete it in a day. I also added stripes which you wouldn't have to do. I did it on dpns, but if you have the right circs Im sure it would work too.

Either that or do what the others are suggesting and do a scarf on big needles. On smaller needles will take you forever. Or give an IOU gift with the yarn and a picture of what you want to knit and say you'll get it to here in a week or so.

A scarf might be easier, especially considering your time frame. Otherwise check out http://www.lionbrand.com
They have easy beginner patterns.
