In the furthest room in my house, the air trickles out of the register. So I want to install an inline duct fan to boost the air supply to that room. How do I get the fan to come on at the same time as the blower motor in the furnace turns on

You need to wire the duct fan in parallel with the main furnace blower. Easiest would be to turn on the duct fan and leave it running 24/7.

Its a little tricky but assuming the furnace fan operates on 120 volts and the duct fan is relatively low current, then you could run the AC line from the duct fan to the furnace motor circuit. Black to Black White to white green or ground to furnace metal. Then when the furnace blower starts so will the duct fan. The two fan motors would be connected in PARALLEL. The furnace relay contactors should be able to take the additional load but it would be best to check. The other option would be to get a 24 volt relay with 120 volt contacts and have the thermostat circuit close the relay and start the duct fan.

Connect it with a relay, that is triggered by the furnace blower motor or the thermostat.
