I just found out my grandfather was a young Japanese student who witnessed the bombings of Hiroshima before his very eyes. Surprisingly he survived the disaster and went on to become a great man.

In 1948 he contacted a local fishery and came into contact with an American brigade sailing the Pacific in the late 40's. After arriving in San Francisco he took work as a part time auto mechanic and devoted the rest of his time to authoring several magazine articles covering the spread of Japanese culture in California. Soon thereafter, in his early twenties he came across a prostitute with whom he fathered his first child, a young boy whom he named Satoshi. A few years thereafter he wed a young girl working in Hollywood who was the daughter of Scottish immigrants. With her he had his second son, a wonderful boy named Stephen.

Stephen went on to marry the daughter of Catholic Polish/Czech immigrants to the United States with whom he fathered his one and only son, Jacob.

You might want to research more of that, and find other Americans and Canadians' stories. We do have some interesting ones.

I'll tell you a little of my grandparents. My mother's father was a defense attorney and later an official in the state government, of Jalisco in Mexico. He was also a Cristero, one of those who organized to defend the freedom of religion. The government, not liking that my grandfather stood for the rights of the people, and was an honest lawyer --yes, I know, very rare, eh?-- had him on a "death list" to be executed extrajudicially (illegally, outside of any court system).

Fortunately, my grandfather either was very blessed, or he had done enough good turns, someone did him a good turn, and informed him of the list. My grandfather, another lawyer, and the ArchBishop who was also under threat of assassination, fled by midnight train to Los Angeles.

At one point before that, he had even rescued my mother and my aunt from illegal detention by secret police.

My grandfather started the first Mexican supermarket in Los Angeles. I don't have the name of it, but any information is appreciated.

One "last thing." The political party that my grandfather and others had started is the one which has put two presidents in office, Vicente Fox and Felipe Calderon. It is the PAN or Partido de Accion Nacional.

My Aunt Magda claims to have documents tracing us back to the year 1320. Below is a link to a book which tells some of this geneology.

Very cool. You are a good writer, keep going :o) You could write an entire screenplay about the man who raises the child he fathered with the prostitute along with his new wife and their child as well.

enjoy your heritage. I know mine is colourful as well but way too interesting to go into. LOL apples falling from the tree don't necessarily take the straightest path.

You have a very interesting family history, specially because of your grandfather. But to be honest I don't think it's 'amazing'.
