I'll go ask mine and see what she says.......

She informed me it's part of her hearding instinct. It's like nipping at those mangy sheeps ankles when they try to go the wrong way!

Seriously though, I believe that's what it is, a "natural" reaction for some dogs. They react to the motion of the moving object and naturally go for it's "feet". Hopefully it isn't followed by a "Thump"!

A friend of mine attached a burlap sack to one of the lugnuts and drove by his dog kinda slow.Well the dog grabbed the sack & couldnt let go.Like to have beat him to death.Made him smarter & probably saved his life.This was prob.40 yrs. ago.

Well they chase it as that is the moving part. And they mark the tire as they are marking their territory, which is the dog's bygone ancestral instincts.
