Sure first start off with a broad sentence like this: "Although many natural disasters are existant in today's world, one case in particular comes to mind." Then you might want to explain exactly what a volcanic eruption is and where they are most prominent in the world. After that, without saying "In this essay I will talk about..." state what you're going to talk about in the essay (so like your thesis)

A clam serene mountain sits in the middle of the woods...deers play, trees grow, rabbits chase eachother when suddenly BOOM! Lava spews from the top and kills everything in its firey path as it heads down the mountain.......
