I was driving one time and as I was making a wide right turn onto a freeway my car started spinning out so I turned the steering wheel the opposite way. Did I do the right thing?

No, you did not do the right thing.
The correct way to steer is IN THE DIRECTION OF THE SKID.

This may seem like "leaning into a hook", but, believe me, it does work to get the car under control.

Perfect! If you were driving a front wheel drive car it's nice to be hearing from you since you escaped without injury. In a rear wheel drive car loose sliding rear end sliding cars are more compliant and predictable. You feel the slide coming on earlier and can correct sooner. Front wheel drive cars can be a handful. When you detect a slide it's easy to overcorrect the slide and the rear end whips back the other way causing another steering wheel over correction. To prevent these things from happening in both type cars carefully slow down before entering a corner. Try not to use the brake in the radius of the corner as that practice causes added weight pitching forward and the car may understeer or oversteer. Good Luck.

Yes, you did the right thing. Also although it's a bit hard to do at the time you should also look in the direction you want the car to go. Something about brain function makes you tend to steer with you hands where you're looking with your eyes.

actually if you were driving a front wheel car you let the car right itself. You don't turn in either, away from or into the skid...
You slow down and let the steering wheel spin in your hands and the front will right itself.

(having lived for yrs in the snow, ice and rain...driving front wheel drive cars for 25 yrs...I know this to be true...)

Yeah you did the right thing. "Love always" is thinking of skidding. Your rear wheels were spinning because it was too difficult to push your car. When your wheels are straight it is easiest for your car to accelerate. It's also the safest.

No you didn't and frankly you are lucky you didn't get in a big crash. ALWAYS turn your wheels in the direction of the skid.
