There is a book called Knitting Encyclopedia that has 1500 patterns in it, but it also shows you how to cast on and off and all the different knitting terms it's invaluable to me and I'm quite an advanced knitter, its by Mon Tricot, I paid $4 for it ages ago. Do you have a friend of relative that can show you the basics, cause scarves are really easy, just plain knitting really, especially if you are using the new fluffy/feathers brands of wool, because you dont have to do purl stitch. Goodluck!!!

If you go to craft stores or your library they have books to teach you how to knit. I first learned though by buying knitting looms called knifty knitter. You can find them at Wal-mart for around 12.00 and it comes with 3-4 different sized looms. They also sell books there that show you how to use the looms to make scarfs. To me this was easy so you get used to the movements and then you can go on to actually knitting with the big needles when you aren't as pressured for time. I first made a tube scarf for my grandma with the looms. Good luck.

I taught myself how to knit using a "teach yourself how" book.
You can find those just about anywhere that sells yarn.
Why knitting? Crocheting is easier.
Where do you live? Are you near a Michaels? They frequently have classes you can join and learn.
Or try your local library. My library has classes for free.
Good luck with your endeavors.

Go to a nice craft shop where yarn is sold. (not Wal-Mart or Target), then ask for help.
Or, find a senior citizen, many of whom can show you how to knit.
We have tried to use books on "How To Knit" and it is really tough to tell from pics.
Good Luck!

if i were you, i would look into taking a class. i know in my community there are weekend classes and seminars on stuff, and knitting and sewing are some classes i have seen listed. that is the best way, or if u cant afford it, go to a senior center, and volunteer to spend time with an old lady if she will teach u how to knit. she would love it. old ppl love getting attention and spending time with young 'uns lol.

It's impossible to tell you how to knit without being able to SHOW you how!
Go to the hobby store and get a beginner's guide. There will be pictures and everything. And remember to get the right needle size. Also, relax. If you hold it too tight it will take FOREVER.
Also remember to COUNT.

A scraf is easy just cast on 20 stitches (web sites above will show you how) then knit every row until you are happy with the length. Then cast off (web sites again) add tassles (web sites) and you are done.
I hope these web pages show you a FREE pattern that you like.
