Collegeboard.com said not to, but is this true? Does it really matter?

Do you really want to take risks on such a pricy test? Slightly dulled pencils will actually fill in circles faster and be less likely to damage the testing sheet. Just do as they ask, they know what they are doing.

Contrary to popular belief, you CAN use mechanical pencils on any scantron test.

When you buy lead, simply make sure it says #2. Even though most scanning machines recognize any lead type, #2 would be the safest.

(It saves a lot of sharpening time, and you only need one pencil!)

You can if the lead is #2 (also known as HB). However, you should probably have a stack of slightly dull regular pencils. With wider lead, you can fill in the circles faster, and you can avoid damaging the test paper.

The paper I got to take mine says no mechanical pencils and no pens. Just regular #2 pencils.

It doesn't matter. The modern scanning machines recognize all types of 'lead" pencils.

You can.
A regular pencil might be better for multiple choice, it fills in the bubbles quicker/better.

As long as you are using #2 lead it should not be a problem - however - I would bring a few of the wooden one's in reserve anyway.

Good Luck!!!
