Btw kittens become cats eventually, just so u know, but back to the original question, i find holding parents hostage works well, get a big supply of duct tape and rope, bind them and put them in a closet, then every hour or so ask about that cute little guinea pig at the pet store, they will crack around the second day usually~~

Ask your parents to give you some sort of challenge or a responsibility outside of what you already do. This makes them feel like they have a part in the decision overall. If you can successfully show them that you can complete what they ask of you, I don't see why they wouldn't let you get a new pet. =)
*Another idea- really figure out what pet you want. Find someone who has one already. Take it off their hands for a week as an experiment. The real interaction will show you whether or not you're ready for a pet of your own. It will also save your parents a large dent in their wallet*

A guinea pig is the right pet for you. They sleep at night and love to play and get held. But if you want to convince your parents you have the respnsibility to have a pet, you need to do all of your chores. For example, start a pet-sitting business around your neighborhood to show your parents that you are good with animals. Also, if you get one you are helping yourself to know what to do with animals. Don't annoy your parents like taking care of a pillow. That won't help at all. Also, if you get a guinea pig, make sure they have all of this.
1.Good nutrition, such as guinea pig pellets, dark leafy greens, and fresh hay.
2. Vitamin C supplementation daily (important, my pig had this and then they cant walk. she survived though which is rare)
3. Fresh water daily
4. Clean housing
5. Soft bedding, such as pelleted paper products and aspen shavings
6. Comfortable environment (temperature, humidity, ventilation)
7. Adequate space
8. Daily observations (check appearance, appetite, behavior, feces)
9. Safety and supervision (prevent accidents)
10. Good - clean cage, fresh bedding, clean dishes and bottles, well-groomed cavy)
Signs of Illness
1. Abnormal stools
2. Poor appetite or refusal to eat
3. Inactivity, lethargy, reluctance or inability to move
4. Discharge from eyes/nose
5. Haodyir loss
6. Pain or swelling anywhere on the body
7. Dehydration
8. Unusual body posture or appearance
9. Excessive, unusual, or frequent vocalization (except when there's food around!!!)
10. Protruding, misdirected teeth, mouth sores or drooling
Hope this helped. Guinea pigs are amazing!!! hope you get one!!!
For some fun, go to google, type in "bing videos" and click on the second or third link that says *BING* I'm a guinea pig. It connects to these pretty cool guineapig videos.

i was going through the same exact things, i swear-check my questions and you'll see i asked liek the same thing.
Anyway. My parents are COMPLETE animal haters. This is how i have persuaded both my mom and dad into getting me a hamster:
1.download a program called keynote or powerpoint. (they are slide show things)
2. make a slideshow with different slides. i had ones liek this: why i should get a hamster, how do i take care of them, etc.
3. Set up two chairs (one for each parent) in front of the computer. Add a footrest if you want. Put a small table between the chairs. Put fresh fruit and a beverages out in wine glasses.
4. Put classical music on in the background.
5. **make sure the room is clean, or else they will be distracted.
6. get your parents lead them into the room, sit them down pour them a drink.
7. CLOSE THE DOOR. lol
8. give the presentation.
9. if you can have yor mom call a friend who has a hamster's mom.
10. keep persuading them with research for a few more days and they will finially say yes!
I am getting mine next saturday because i am going to arizona for february break.
i reallyyy hope this helps, and you get what you want.
get dressed up in that ugly sweater your mom loves but you hate.
-Andrea
(this is for if you want a hamster, because thats what i did. you can do this presentation for any pet though.

It is good to know how to take care of a pet, and to also be sure you would not get tired of taking care of it.
Maybe there is a reason your parents don't want to get a pet. It could be money issues, not wanting to deal with another animal, not wanting to get all the supplies for one, vet visits (which cost money), or maybe even not liking the type of pet you want to get.
Since it is their house you have to consider these things and maybe this info will help you to decide if you get a pet.... what can you do to help with the expense? How can you keep your pet out of the way (such as keeping it in your room)?

Prove to your parents that u are responsible to have a pet decide on what u would really like to get do up alot of reading on that special pet and then go from there. Pets take alot of time so if u dont have it dont if think about it. Feedings, training etc. there just not something u can put on a shelf when u get tired of them

Start by showing that you're responsible enough for a pet. Begin by saving up the money for the pet, the cage/tank, and a few months worth of food, etc. before even asking for permission to have a pet. If you've had the discipline to save up for quite a while, that will show that it isn't just some fad that you'll tire of in a couple weeks.

Maybe you aren't aware of this, but one day a kitten will be a cat, so don't get the kitten.
Really if you want a pet, you should already have something in mind. Normally people like something in particular and work towards that, you are going at it backwards. What do you like?!?

Taking care of an animal is a big responsibility and your parents know that. It has to be fed, cleaned up after, trained and loved and all that takes someone who is not so self centered that they can accept all that is involved. I'd show my parents how mature and responsible you can be. If you can clean up after yourself it will go a long way towards them believing you will care for a pet. Most parents find that the kid gets an animal and the parents end up caring for it so they are going to have to be shown how grown up you are. After all, you are going to be responsible for that critter being healthy and happy. Good Luck and God Bless

do your research
find out EVERYTHING about taking care of the pet that u want
and tell ur parents EVERYTHING that u researched
this shows that u actually care about the pet rather than.."AWW ITS SO CUTE"
if money is an issue find out the price and upkeep to raise the pet. You should also get a job so u can pay for the pet urself....that will GREATLY increase the chance of ur parents saying yes. If you are not willing to work to buy ur own pet...then maybe u arent fit to own a pet
