Help him by continuing to be his friend. By him telling you, it means that he trusts you. Be there for him & listen to him. Other people who are filled with hate and bigotry will tell him that he is a bad person, and you can be there to let him know why he is a good person and why he is still your best friend.

If he is gay then he is gay. He needs to tell his family and get it over with. If the family gets angry do not worry because once it sinks in they will be fine and if not hey, at least he was man enough to tell them and be honest about it. But waiting only makes the nervousness continue and will be more stressful.

Your best friends mom should already know. If she doesn't, she is not a very attentive mom and doesn't really know her own child. I can't stand moms who act all surprised and shocked. Get a grip all you mothers out there living in denial. You bore the child, now live with your gift from God!!!!! And, love him or her unconditionally!

Why does his family need to know? They might suspect but not wish to pry. The 'dont ask, dont tell' family. Even if they are totally clueless, why should they know? He shouldn't go to great lengths to hide it, but if that knowledge is going to screw up his relationship with his family why shouldn't he keep it secret? His family isn't the ones going to bed with his lovers.
