Without going into much detail, where did this all come from? How is it that all Americans are labeled ignorant and stupid? Wouldn't it be just as ignorant to call every person of a single nation "ignorant"? How are Euro's on any given subject not ignorant?

But you see, many Americans are educated. The ones you may hear about in other countries, such as "this one American on TV said he doesn't know where Canada is..." are the ones that get all the publicity. Someone who knows everything in America won't get PR and everyone outside of the US starts to think that Americans don't know anything about cultural geography, politics, don't care about anything, and are like the show Friends or something. To think that all Americans are like this is ignorant. To think all Europeans think this way, or other people from other continents think this way, is also ignorant. But every time I come on here and there is a question similar to this, the majority of the people cry "IGNORANT AMERICANS" or something. Like I said, many are educated. I am educated. I see things from many view points as do others. Unfortunatley Bush and Kerry were the two candidates, but you can't say the American citizens voted them in when 60% of those who can vote can't

DIdn't mean to say "can't" meant to say "don't". And those 40% or so who do, don't have a say. Everyone could have been for Kerry but the Electoral College could choose Bush. See what I mean? The politics in that case are horrible, it goes back to the early days of the US when it was believed (and for good reason up till this day) that the citizens may not know what is best for them.

.......If you haven't noticed by now, I am an American. I'm not saying Americans are stupid and ignorant, I'm ASKING where this sentiment has come from. I am in no way demeaning anyone.
Just read the question and the details, don't look at it and think of pretty pictures.

It has nothing to do with Bush. They will blame it on politics so they can't be labeled as bigots. That's a really BIG point, and keep it in mind because you'll see that excuse over and over. It's deliberate. They do it to JEWS too. All the blame is now conveniently shifted to Israeli politics to hide their hatred of a people.
A lot of the bigotry against Americans is left over from Germany during the Nazi years, Americans are uncultured and the USA is run by Jews.
European and Commonwealth countries still employ anti-American propaganda at election time for a candidate's benefit to 'warm up' to their lovely, tolerant constituents.
If you think this is all new, it's not. It's history that never died. Global communication has brought it to the surface.
Can you imagine if all these Answerers above were talking about black people? It's clearly acceptable bigotry from ignorant people who have been raised in a culture that encourages that type of thing.
As for the American people who bash the USA, it's ignorant people who never look at any another country's failures when they're bashing their own. They're disgusting fellow-Americans.
Go live in Europe for awhile, or a Commonwealth, and make your own decision. I did.

Well gee. Its so not true!
Just look at our schools. Columbine, metal detectors at entrances to make sure no guns get into the classrooms.
Drugs everywhere - sold through school fences - in classes etc.
Poor education for the masses.
Not learning from thier mistakes - Viet Nan, Iraq, Laten America
Jackassing around the world with the CIA creating problems that get thousands if not millions killed.
Propping up dictators - Saddam, Noriega, Pinoche etc
Arms proliferation - Iraq, Iran, at home

Ugly American is an epithet used to refer to perceptions of arrogant, demeaning, unthoughtful behaviors of Americans abroad. The term originated as the title of a 1958 book by authors William Lederer and Eugene Burdick, reprinted in 1999, The Ugly American.

It comes from people being stupid. Where else? The majority of people on earth stupid and ignorant. But Americans have the luxury of being lazy, stupid and ignorant...while living in what others would call lavish surroundings. That just breeds contempt. But to everyone....if you don't want the world to think Americans are stupid...don't be. Educate yourself, see the world and understand that there is more than one viewpoint on every situation. Then in time...people won't think Americans are stupid anymore.

Isn't that what John Hanoi Kerry think of our magnificent military ? If others thought we were so ignorant , why have they been breaking their necks to get her for generations ? It's people like Senator John lurch Kerry who go to foreign countries to slander America . I wish somebody would stop letting him back in the country ..And thoise like ted & Joe Kennedy who praise enemies of the U.S. like the insurgents in Iraq & Socialist Chavez who would like to overthrow the U.S. Lets send our riff-raff to Cuba ..like Castro did with the ones he gave us once upon a time .

In my opinion your reference to the American only is not fair. Humanity consists of people of diverse nature. People are different in race,,religion, political thoughts, knowledge, emotional maturity....Ignorance,selfishness, lack of perception, extremism, lack of political education have affected our thoughts. Americans are more vocal. This gives wrong message to the world.

I've long thought that it's because we don't value quite the same class and educational structure as is prevalent in Europe; or maybe it's just plain envy.
