After seeing Larry King's show last night on "The Secret" I am interested in what other people have read regarding self improvement for gaining more success and life fulfillment. The Secret to me seems to be repetitive as far as other self help methods plus "Law of Attraction" principles written about from everyone Wayne Dyer, Tony Robbins, Norman V Peal, The Magic of Believing and of course the Bible is filled with "ask and ye shall receive." Of course things aren't always that simple for everyone, especially that people's mind sets are unique and what works for one doesn't necessarily work beneficially to others. There are so many self help method books and DVD's out there now, so I would like to see what you guys have used that made real life changing breakthroughs and helped improve your finances, relationships, goals, jobs, whatever

this might sound silly and irrelevant, but there is a book called "the one minute manager" that changed my life.
Its not just a book for people in the job force. It kind of gives you a different perspective on how you can change your life by doing simple little things during your daily routine that can clear up any clutter and drama in your life so you can move on to become a more organized and successful person in your every day life. It is a small book and a very easy read..
Another book that is very popular is called "who moved my cheese".. Its more of a book on how to deal with change.
As far as relationships go, there is a book called "the proper care and feeding of husbands" by dr. Laura slessinger.. I read this book when I was still a young single gal. It is a great read and it is made for both men and women. It gives you such a great perspective on how you should treat a man or woman in any relationship and how to make it thrive by doing the right thing. Not to mention the many personal stories that people have shared with her over the years.. These too me are all very fabulous books and they will never leave my library.
I havn't picked up the secret, but it is next on my order list from Borders, I am hoping that it will be insightful.

" Alcoholics Anonymous " - the epitome of self help books. From that book at least thirty self-help programs have evolved. Truly a solid series of directions for a successful life on life's terms.

i agree frudd, i believe that this is another marketing tactic which is simply re-emphasizing that people should be able to determine their own life paths. One of the problems that I see with 'The Secret' is that it places people's failings completely on their own shoulders...some issues in life can certainly be blamed on circumstances. good question though...

To Ms. Smarty...

..thats what makes it so hard for people to accept. You don't want to think that bad things in your life were actually your fault.
