I am a transcriptionist I need a laptop that is good for typing for long periods of time

since it is basically for typing purpose only you can buy a good amd based or an intel celeron based with a entery level price .which serves your purpose

As a transcriptionist, I would suggest you look at either an Acer with the slightly curved keyboard arrangement (good for helping your hands stay a little straighter to limit the troubles often found by laptop users) or simply invest in a good external keyboard (especially useful if you are using this at home mostly, with minor use while off site.

Use a Panasonic Toughbook or an Apple Macbook/Macbook pro. Toughbooks are very durable, while the keys on Macbooks feel good under your fingers if you're a heavy handed typist.

You're probably better off using an external keyboard. That way you can choose separately the keyboard and laptop on their own merits.
