Go to a local business and ask them to save the envelopes from their mail for you. Make a regular day to come and pick up the envelopes. If you don't come when you say you will, they may not save them after that. Most places are glad to get rid of the envelopes. I once had the admissions director of a large college (my next-door neighbor at the time) save his envelopes for me, and there were stamps from all over the world.

You can sometimes buy large collections on eBay for not much money. But the very best way is to go to a stamp show where there will be dozens of dealers in the same room. To find one in your area, go to http://www.stamps.org and click on "Shows abd Exhibitions." At the same site, click on "Clubs" and see if there is a stamp club in your area. They usually have club auctions or swaps where you can get lots of stamps cheap. And the members are good sources of local information, including knowing about small shows that are not listed on the stamps.org site.

Good luck--it's a wonderful hobby!
