I just checked on line on the Motrin sight and there is a infant formula witch I didn't know. I would say it is OK, but if you are questioning yourself maybe you should call the doc just to ease your mind.

It says on the box you are supposed to call a dr for a child that young. I always call first. Sometimes they want to see the baby to make sure nothing else is wrong (for example, I took my daughter in once and it turned out she had an ear infection that could have caused some damage on top of the cold that I thought was causing the fever).
I would be really careful doing that. Really careful. It is really easy for infants to OD (take the babies who died from Od'ing on cough meds this winter). If you do give it without the dr's consent, you are only supposed to give half of the lowest mililiter on the dropper (ie, half of .4 mL if that is what it is. I know that is what it is for Tylenol, but I forgot the Motrin number).

Naw, no need to call the doctors. If your son is in need of the Motrin and this is something you've already discussed with your doctor than by all means start using it. If you aren't sure what the dosage is and its after hours, call your local pharmacy and they will tell you what the dose is for your baby's weight.

So long as you have the correct dosage for you childs weight then you can give it to him if he needs it. The nurse can give you the dosage if you doctors office has one of those help lines like mine does. I like Motrin over Tylenol because it lasts 2 hours longer and reduces inflammation.

http://www.motrin.com
Weight (lbs) Age (months) Dose (mL)
Under 6 months Ask a doctor
12-17 lbs 6 to 11 months 1.25 mL
18-23 lbs 12-23 months 1.875 mL
My doctor and pharmacist says that it is better to go by the weight than age. But i always check first with a pharmacist/doctor before giving medicine to my child.

as far as i know, a low dose is ok for babies your son's age but definitely use as directed and don't use when you don't have to. and it never hurts to call the dr- that's what they are there for!
