Our hospital emergency rooms are fast and efficient

There are 2 very good hospitals within 5 minutes of my house. My experience is that the length of your wait is relevant to what is wrong with you. My sister goes for a cold like it's a doctors office and waits forever. I took my aunt in with chest pains, and she was seen immediately. The moral of the story is if it isn't an emergency, don't go to the ER, call your physician!

False. Grown up Jennifer F spent 5 hours waiting in the Emergency Room Waiting area one night before anyone even looked at her daughter. It made her very mad and they only looked at her after 5 hours because Jennifer F threw an adult-sized temper tantrum and cussed out a nurse.

Lots of doctors are already on salary, and most doctors' decisions are based on what the insurance and HMOs will pay, not on their bottom line, because most people can't afford to pay the fees otherwise. Yes, I do think that doctors earn every dime they receive, and they are well worth it. What would happen if you paid them rock bottom salaries? The same thing that has happened with our teachers. We pay them less than we pay almost everyone else- and as a result, people go into education for one of two reasons: they really believe in what they are doing and love their students, or they can't get work elsewhere and any low-paying job will do.

True.
We have 2 major medical centers right within 2 miles of each other and they both implemented something called "Patient Throughput Initiative" for the Emergency Departments.

I work for our hospital so I'm a little biased, but the ER here used to SUCK and it is awesome now; not necessarily FAST, but efficient. Triage makes sure that those who need to be seen quickly are - sometimes there is a wait, but it is for non life threatening illnesses or injuries.

Completely false in my city, or in my country for that matter...

I'm in Santiago - Chile. Awful service, unless it's a private hospital.

False.

I've never known a single one to be fast and efficient.

We have several, and they are all pretty efficient, but if your problem isn't life threatening, and they happen to be back logged w/ cardio patients, you can plan on waiting a while.....
