Right up until the Berlin Wall collapsed, the whole of Communism was separated from the West. President Truman began a policy of containment and it was effective until today, as with the Cuban foreign policy of boycotting and isolating the Cuban Island and not allowing it to render any type of free alliance to further solidify the security of the U.S.

Only until recently are we able to trade and communicate with nations in the Far Eat. It must be said however, that Hong Kong was a neutral state and allowed much of the Chinese inventory to find its way into Hong Kong. So, many times labels on items said...Made in Hong Kong...that item could have very easily been made in Communist China.

The policy of containment sometimes backfires as Americans will purchase items from countries that trade with the contained country, and that extra 'middle man' has an added cost to the purchaser of the product.

We must never allow any foreign policy to backfire and always remember that the security of the United States is not negotiable, but absolute. Containment sounded good on paper and history will record it worked. But, there have been questions evolving the cost of marketable goods and services in and out of the U.S.
