The 72' Summit Series Canada vs. Russia. That was some nasty, dirty hockey. Redundancy due to frustration.

I cannot argue with your pick. I will also reveal some personal details here since my answer may betray my age - I started watching hockey in 1985, and was not a dedicated follower until 1987.

So, my pick is the 1987 Stanley Cup Finals between Philly and Edmonton. Two contrasting styles, great hockey, drama, and a 7-game series featuring Ron Hextall having to deal with Craig MacTavish and Mike Krushelnyski in his crease most of the time. Wicked.

But I agree that pales in comparison to the '72 Summit Series which I have watched on DVD. I cannot imagine the atmosphere when it was originally played.

For sure the 72 Canada - Russia series is the pinnacle of hockey.

Close 2nd for me is the 93 Habs cup win against Gretzky and the Kings.

obviously most answers should be the 72 summit series. there was probably no other day in hockey history where people skipped work and school like my dad did to come home and watch it.
he came home, and saw no one was home, and then his dad came home. and he thought he was in big trouble. but he sat down beside him and handed him a beer.
either that or the 02 olympics. wayne gretzky was on a tantric...slur of speech at the reporters.

72' summit series was ******* crazy and nothing compares to that. i loved allot of the battles on the ice throughout the 70's and some of the 80's and i wish i was old enough to see the great battles back in the day's of the Rocket Richard era, does where some great battles for the Stanley cup they played for the love of the game not like allot of players today only playing for there contracts.

For sure. I was only 12 then but I have never seen anything stir up our national passion like that. The 2002 Olympics were also some great hockey by our boys.
