First go and shake the pipe fairly hard. It might simply be that the float is hung up. Look inside the sump and if you see a ball of any type connected to the pump making sure it can float freely. If that doesn't work try lifting the pump up a few inches and drop it. That might free a pressure switch if that is what it has.

A plumber could replace it but a handyman might be cheaper. If you have a handy friend or husband, you can replace it in less time than it takes to go buy one - about 20 minutes - and likely save a couple hundred bucks unless there is steel pipe connected to it. You or a friend are welcome to contact me if you want step by step instructions.

Good Luck!

Just pull it out of the sump hole. The screen on the bottom is plugged up and not allowing water to enter the impeller area. Clean that screen out. It comes off easily.

No need for a plumber. Plumbers dont fix pumps anyhow, machine repairmen do.

Sounds like the float is stuck or the float switch is broken. In either case if it was burning then you will in all likelihood have to replace the unit. If you are at all handy they can be purchased in a variety of hardware or home supply stores. If you would rather take a pass then just call a plumber

the float switch may have stuck and if the motor aint got water to keep it cool then she will burn up
my guess is you need another complete little giant sump pump they come with a switch float and everything for less than a hundred

If you need your sump pump repaired or fixed call you local plumber. Ask around in your neighborhood or at work for recommendations.
