I have a son whose is being accused of child abuse in Illinois. He is supposed to have caused a bruise about the size of a quarter on his stepdaughter's leg. He goes before a judge in April. His lawyer has told him he is confident the case will be declared "unfounded". The pessimist in me though still wonders what if. The stepdaughter has told DCFS on several occasions that abuse did not happen but her biological father keeps pushing the case. So, my question is this, what kind of punishment would he mostly likely get if the judge still thinks there was abuse? He has never before had anything like this happen and has no record of any kind. Could they make him leave the house or would it be something more like parenting classes and such? Thank you to everyone who answers.

Having just lived though something similiar in my family, prepare yourselves for the worst. Of course we are in another state but I still have my doubts in our justice system, even though my heart wants to believe we have the best in the world. People just seem to always assume the worst when it comes to children. And DO NOT kid yourselves by thinking that this will ever be over, because it will not!!! It will never totally go away regardless of how the judge rules. Be on guard at all times when that child is around and I hate even saying those words but it is true. I do wish you all the very best and especially your son and the stepdaughter. My heart and prayers are with you all.
