I am 14, 6' tall and 150 pounds. Most people think i can drive the ball across the field but i can't. I have been playing soccer for about 6 years and i still can't kick a ball correctly without it rolling to the side or only going about 5-10 yards at the most. And it is not really under control. What is the correct way to kick a soccer ball? Because i need help!

Thank You!

I know!
Shooting Technique

Locking your ankle (pointing toes down), when striking the ball, is probably the single most important factor in developing the proper shooting technique. It is also the hardest skill to learn. The Super Kick has made that task easier. You don't have to think about what you are doing wrong anymore. The Super Kick will tell you, and correct your technique in minutes.

Steps to improve your shot.

1. Leg Position:
Bring your kicking leg as high as possible. This will generate the most amount of power.

2. Ankle Position:
Keep your ankle locked. Picture above shows the position of the ankle before striking the ball.

3. Knee Position:
Your plant knee should be slightly bent. This will ensure that you strike the ball with the laces. The more you bend the knee the more chances you'll have to strike the ball with your laces.

4. Plant Distance
Try to keep your plant leg about a foot or a a foot and a half away from the ball. This will ensure that when you strike the ball your kicking ankle will be at a 45 degree angle: the angle at which you'll generate the most amount of power.

5. Body Position:
Make sure your lean slightly forward. this will ensure that your shot will stay low to the ground. If you lean back the ball will go up in the air.

6. The most important Step: 45 degree angle
This is extremely important. If this is not done correctly your shooting will not improve. Your ankle needs to be at about a 45 degree angle so that you can strike the ball with your laces. If you are not at this angle there is a high chance that you will strike the ball with you toes.

Dude,
Why do you care about kicking the ball if you can't control the ball.

Do the following.
1. Start to juggle the ball as much as possible with both feet.
2. Walk through the house with the ball dribbling furniture.
3. Kick the ball off of a wall.
4. Set up flags or sticks and start passing the ball to them from long distances. (start at 5 ft, then 10 ft. etc)
5. Make small goals out of sticks or flags, make the goals big enough that only the ball can fit, start to pass the ball threw them.
After awhile you will develop touch which will consist in kicking crosses and chipping the ball. You will not be able to be taught how to kick, you must learn to control the ball, as if part of your body. Then kicking, chipping the ball and shooting will come. You must remember, kicking the ball is the same as passing. Shooting the ball is the same as passing. Start passing the ball, with accuracy short distances then advance to longer and longer distances.
Peace out from a once

Laces!! KIck the ball with the top part of your foot about where your shoe laces are. Also, your planted foot (the one that's not kicking the ball) should be right next to the ball, not in front of or behind it. Follow through after you kick. If you stop your foot when you connect with the ball you will have no power. This also helps the control. Hope this helps!

As the others said you need to lock your ankle when kiking but first you take a big stride to the ball plant your foot about 6 inches away from the side of the ball and then try and get under the ball while hitting it with the area near you big toe.

most likely you are "toeing it" hitting it straight on with the toes of your foot...think of your foot as a compass, when shooting shoot with the northwest part of your foot, and when passing use the inside part of your foot or west part. the key to doing this is following through as soon as you hit it don't stop your leg movement..practice kicking "air" move your leg all the way past where the ball would be. Consult your coaches if you need even more help..practice practice practice is always good. remember don't toe it follow though when kicking and concentrate on a traget, and lastly don't try to do something you know you can't do like kicking the ball 40 yards...okay..

Ok, im 14 also and i play in a competitive league. Take 5 steps back and 3 to the side to drive it. Hit the ball on the bottom side and with the inside top part of ur foot. just practice practice practice. thats what it takes.

you sound american try not to listen to the long winded answers ..what you are doing is standing too far back when you strike ..your standing leg should be beside the ball only further to the side you kick like a karate expoinent try taking a ball all by yourself and learning this slowly and before long you will have to readjust to not over hitting..bet your skinny this happens when you grow too fast you will see you dont lack power its you dont realise you have grown..good luck.
