In my youth, I used to play pranks that I thought were funny. Now, I don't think they are so funny anymore.
In high school, I was able to find (make the steal) the paperwork necessary to suspend a student for misbehavior. I took it home, wrote it up for some girl I was feuding with, and then put it on the office desk in the reception area one morning. The secretaries found it, gave it to one of the staff and...they suspended the girl from school for 3 days! She said something to the teacher, who's name I forged, and the teacher said, "No, I never wrote you up for that." They knew it was me, but it all sort of blew-over. Whew!
Another time, when I was in college, there had been some flooding in the college town as a result of some heavy rains. The National Guard was called-in to help clean-up the problem areas. The Guardsmen were staying in the spare rooms at the men's dorm and their trucks were parked in different areas, where they could find space. As a prank, I called the front desk of the dorm and disguised my voice; I told them I was Captain so-n-so and that the students had to move their cars from the front parking lot, to make room for the National Guard vehicles. The student at the front desk was like, "Yes Sir. Yes Sir. Right away Sir. As you say Sir." A minute later the intercoms came-on at the dormatory and the students were told to move their cars from the front parking lot. What amuses me is that the next day, the National Guard really DID start parking their trucks in the front parking lot. Glad I could be of assistance! Also, glad I was not arrested for impersonating an Army Officer.
This is all ancient history. I wised-up!

Since you posted this under Careers, you mean in the context of the workplace.
THe worst lie I ever told was that I wasn't fired from a previous job. In a nutshell, it's because you never admit that. You say something else. Although the next company didn't exactly find that out, they knew something was not right when they doubled checked my references before they fired me. Yeah, I got fired again. So in a manner of speaking, they did figure it out. Then my doctor diagnosed me with Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) and my life turned around. But that's another story.
There are different types of lies. Some lying isn't really that bad. Someone you don't know that well asks you "How are you?" You lie and say, "I'm fine" when really you just broke up with your bf/gf or your spouse kicked you out last week. It's because although it's a lie, you say that because the acquaintance doesn't want to hea that. It was just a pleasantry when they asked and you give one back. Then there what I call the "necessary lies in life" For instance, you tell your employer you're sick one day when really you're going to a job interview. Why? Because everyone does that and no one cares. Or you say you were laid off from your last job when really you were fired. It's because you never admit you were fired. And then there are times when you lie by not revealing something. You just choose not to mention something. You decline to mention a bad experience instead use a better one to impress the interviewer. "I'm really good at estimating my work" That's because I got removed from a project for routinely missing deadlines. I learned it because I got my fingers burned too many times NOT to finally figure out how to estimate effort!
Hope that answers your question about lying.

Ok..are you ready for this?
I told my teacher I was being raped by my brother so he would pay more attention to me/feel sorry for me, etc. My teacher and I ended up spending a lot o time together after this, and one night I stayed over at his house and he kissed me.
Oh yeah, he is married with two kids, and his wife is blind. Im a horrible person, I know :( Anyway, the whole world found out, and none of them speak to me anymore, which isnt fair because my teacher was wrong to kiss me and stuff in the first place.
Anyway, thats just one of my many other elaborate stories I hold deep in my soul.

It is best to tell the truth. I always say if you tell the truth you are untouchable. And it is easy to remember. But there are times when you have to tell lies you are naked if you can not tell lies (metaphorically speaking) I stole some money from work and when questioned about it I denied it. They knew I had stole it but could not prove it,All the time I worked there I knew they knew I was a thief. I was pleased when I left there. From then on I vowed to myself I would be more honest and tell the truth if I could. It makes me feel better as well. Hope that helps.

I didn't tell it but I had one told on me. I'm in a rock band and the drummer thought it was funny to tell a bunch of kids I was Tom Petty. With long hair I kinda look like him. Well they all ganged up on me yellin' for autographs and wouldn't take no for an answer ! so there are some fake Tom petty ones out there. And NO I never forgave him for that one....

Probably the worst lie was when I was 13 and I lied to my parents about smoking. They found out and I got grounded.

I had a child when I was in college. I didn't tell anyone because I was at a small Christian school and was engaged by not married. That's just as bad as lying.
One person at my college knows now. It feels good to have someone know.

anyone who says they have never told a lie is probably telling the biggest lie!
I have told many, mostly either to make myself look better or to protect others.
i have never yet been caught out but im sure it will happen.

Told one guy that everything was fine between us when I was seeing someone else. As far as I know, he never found out.
(We did break up later, but for other reasons.)
