Is the English Channel wider than the Atlantic Ocean?

The United Kingdom, for all its grumpy resentment of the United States, will always align with us in a severe crisis: Our mutual values are far closer than any Britain shares with either France or Germany. Anglo-American sparring can be vicious, but outsiders fail to grasp that its a family feud. And the family closes ranks to outsiders.
Of course we will always need to maintain our close relationship with the United Kingdom. There will be fueds and misunderstandings, but we must avoid overreacting and thus giving ammunition to Briain's hard left. The greatest partnership in human history has been that of The United States and the United Kingdom. No one should ever forget that!

What say you?

I say you are talking through a hole in your butt! Family feud? Don't think so! Yanks are a totally screwed up people. How quickly they forget that they fought a war against the UK to get their independence & then fought against UK in subsequent wars (like in the early 19th century). For the record, Scotland & France have a very close relationship, even if it is not as close in the past. There are loads of French, German & other Europeans in the UK as a whole & they are a damn side more welcome than idiot meatheads like you.

For the record the Atlantic is a lot wider than the English Channel & your head is a lot emptier than mine!

The only real difference between the people of the United States of American and the people of the United Kingdom is that, in Churchill's own words, "we are two great nations separated by a common language."

The often bitchy and grumpy resentment expressed by the Brits towards the Yanks is in-family fighting - a fight if you like between siblings. No matter what, we're in it together and we're in it to win. In spite of all the whining that goes on. Pay scant attention, it's just up and down jaw movements because as a free people we feel we must say something, even if it's crap.

Sorry to disagree but it is between UK and Australia as they always back each other up from beginning to end like in WW1,WW2 and many other wars we are part of the Commonwealth after all and we class the Queen as our own.

The British are like elderly relatives to a young adult, finding it's way in the world after a family feud.
On one hand we're proud of our offspring and it's achievements at the same time upset that he/she has done it on it's own without learning from our own mistakes. We are also reminded of what we once were and what we have become,Living in the shadow of our own creation.

As a UK citizen I feel the sooner our 'special relationship' with the USA goes the better.

America is an arrogant warmonger country.

Possible.
But we were part of Europe before we allowed the U.S.A. to exist, ...ahem.
The English just like to flex our muscles before all concerned.
We may take the pi55 at times, but we have all a good heart.

The UK encourages hatred for Americans at a time when people are acting on that hate. What the benefit is to them I'll never know.

TO Greg N. As America is like an offspring of the UK, your comments remind me of the old adage "like Father.....like Son". For myself, I prefer the company of proven friends to the doubtful embrace of historical foes in Europe.
