Yes, way back at my first job but I don't anymore.
I recall seeing an ad in the careers section for a much more interesting job than the one I had at the time. I was at my first job after graduation. I started feeling guilty about applying for it because I would be leaving the current job while in the middle of a big project. Also, the director was a great guy and someone I admired. I felt like I'd be letting him down personally. I asked a coworker in confidence about it and what he told is exactly I believe now and I'm telling you, "Go for it! Always do what's best for you!" The truth is you are not enslaved to working for an employer, even if they have been wonderful to you. We live in a free society and you are entitle to choice! You can purse whatever career you want and who you want to work for. What's more, so I leave in the middle of a project. Is there really ever a good time to leave a job? Even if one project or assignment ends, there's often another that's behind schedule! Plus, people quit jobs all the time. It's not like the director hasn't had this before! It's all part of the business.
Always do what's best for YOU!! Go ahead and apply for the job. There's no reason for you to feel guilty.

Guilt is a quality to be proud of, it means you're human and have a conscience. Consider your long term goals and needs when job hunting. Even though you like your current job it obviously doesn't provide enough money, security or benefits or you wouldn't require another. Do what you have to do to survive. Make sure you give ample notice before vacating your job and if you made friends keep in touch with them. You might find some people take your leaving personally but they aren't paying your bills.

Yes, two different times. The first time I had a really good relationship with my boss, but the company was run very poorly. Moral was low and employees who did as little as possible got the biggest raises, because "they make less than anyone else". I wonder why?
The second time, I also had a great relationship with my boss and loved the company, but there was no room for advancement. I had topped out there, and I needed to move on for myself and my family.

Go for it. Now ask yourself this question. Does the job feel guilty for letting you go. So why worry about the job. You need to worry about you and and the people that depend on you.

At the end of the day, if you cant say you are happy and are "making it" in your current job, you shouldnt feel guilty about leaving it.
Its kinda like a loser boy/girlfriend.....if they suck, they gotta go

No I don't feel guilty. Looking to improve my life by a better job or better income is no reason to feel guilt. I am looking out for me and my family, no one else will.
