Agh, I hate electrical problems. I guess it could be simple, but probably not! I just dealt with one myself, and it took over 8 hours of diagnosis...meaning expensive.

I can't answer your question because I think it could be anything... there are so many problems you have. I mean, it could be just one thing causing everything to go crazy, but who would know what that was until it was looked at? I just don't think anyone can answer your question and know oh yeah, it's the thingymobob which causes the odometer and wipers to quit, and the transmission to not work. So sorry, I know my answers not that much help...
I just think you need to seek professional help, or get rid of the car because it might cost quite a bit to find the problem. Do you have some kind of security system that is shutting down the car maybe?

The problem sounds like corrosion on your battery connections. Disconnect first the ground cable and then the positive cable. Take some sandpaper or a wire brush to the battery posts and the cable connections. It's not only green corrosion that causes a problem. Oxidation can turn them black and play hob with continuity. You want them nice and shiny. Once they're clean trace the cables out to the connections at the other end. Disconnect and clean them thoroughly then reconnect everything and hopefully the problem will be cured. If it is still occuring trace the positive cable out and see if there are any extensions that also need cleaning. These types of problems almost always turn out to be faulty connections somewhere along the line. Good luck.
