I am a very wealthy person, who drives a Lambo, and my son really likes it but I don't want to buy him one because he barely got his license. I want to get him a nice one but at the same time teach him responsibility. I'm willing to spend $90,000. Oh and he's 16 if that helps.

This is what my parents are doing for me:

I am 15 and received my license earlier this year. I have always liked Jaguars and BMW's (and have hated sports cars, no offense) my parents agreed to get me whatever car I want, on one condition, I drive a practice car for 8 months to a year, and/or until my fist accident. This is because it would not be fun to go home and explain the I crashed the Jaguar. So, during drivers ED I practiced on a VW passat. I hated that car, so, we got rid of it. Now I am driving a Lincoln Continental until the year is over and/or when I have an accident. This would probably be best. I hated the Idea at first, but then realized that it is going to be to my benefit to practice before I have a car that is more expensive. After all, I would rather get in a wreck with a Lincoln that is a few years old than crash a nicer vehicle. Oh, don't forget to pay for his insurance and gas. That is what my parents are doing for me. If your son does not have to work he will have more time for extra-curricular activities and volunteering. Even more importantly; he will have full coverage on his car, which he would probably not be able to pay for with an entry level, part time job. I know that my insurance is $3,000 a month (probably because I am 15), so my parents pay for it.

Good luck.

First of all I don't think you should spoil you're son. If you really want to buy the car for him, and he's 16, then I recommend you buy him a safe car under $30000 U.S.

Why do I say that? Well first of all, you can't really be sure about what type of environment you're son will be driving in. Here are three possible scenarios:

(1) He's driving to school, and a gang try's to steal his car, or destroy it.

(2) He's speeding on the freeway, which is dangerous for his own life, but to innocent drivers driving along.

(3) He crashes the car (which mind you most kids under 20 do at least once). I like to call it "It's Anxious Young Driver's Syndrome."

Therefore I recommend a strong, safe car which is not only cheap (in case of repairs), but also satisfies your son's desire for speed and "teenage coolness."

Hope this helps!

Don't feed your ego with your son's life! A new driver needs a solid SLOW car that will not get him in over his driving ability. New cars have many safety advances and that should be your TOP priority. Our neighbor lost his son in a drag racing accident because he had a powerful car. You don't need to spend $90,000 for your son's car. What will he have to aspire to if he has already had it all handed to him? I'm sure you love your child...please don't put him in a car he can't handle and may kill himself or somebody else.

How 'bout make him get a job & buy his own car? Teach him some responsiblity.

Read "The Millionnaire Next Door", by Thomas J. Stanley and William D. Danko. Both of you. ;-)

If that doesn't help, I suggest you buy him a very commonsense car. Nothing too flashy. BMW 3 series should work.

Then you can get me a like-new Z3 (I don't like the Z4), if my husband has no objections.

Well I don't know what type of car he likes, but maybe you should go with some kind of sports car. I like sports car , not because of their speed, but just because they look good. If it's a suprise, you could get someone to ask him on what car he would like.....besides the one you have:)

I think he should get whichever one he can afford! And don't forget to remind him that he needs to pay for the insurance, repairs, and also put gas in it. And he might want to work a few extra hours to set aside a little more money for emergencies.

Get him a tank. A gross, rusty old 40 year old car like the rest of us have to drive as our first cars.

If you're willing, you can buy me a car. I'd be happy with a new Honda Cr-V; I don't need anything fancy and it would only cost around 28k. E-mail me at Erhjunk@yahoo.com if you're interested!
