i got a onion bud and i would like to grow the bigger one not the scallons how long do the take to grow?

You will not get an onion from a bud, that is unless it is a tiny onion itself as produced on top of the plant of an Egyptian onion.
If you bought an onion set, it will grow into a plant, but if it is from a green onion, you will get a green onion. If it is from a red onion, a white onion or a yellow onion, that is what you will get. How long it takes will depend on where you live, when the last frost is, and the climate and water during the growing season. In most cases, generally speaking, it will take between 60 and 70 days to harvest.
