General Benedict Arnold of the American army became a man without a country after his plans to turn over West Point, New York to the British were discovered. Fortunately, his plans never succeeded. Arnold fled to the British lines where he was not especially welcome either. He died in England a man who was not remembered for his bravery as an American soldier in the early parts of the Revolution or as a great British officer because the British didn't trust him either. He simply didn't have a country to call home, he was a traitor in America and a well known turncoat to the British.
