I'm writing a speech, and I wanted to know the daily routine of a spanish teacher....how you prepare of class, grade homework....etc.

Of course routines vary from day-to-day and could include hours of grading or minutes of preparation. I do most of my planning at the beginning of each week, when I try to assemble and copy all of the handouts I will need for my Spanish I and II courses. Having those neatly set out in order in a file holder saves time during the week.

Each day I need to set up either the musical or overhead starter before students arrive. As they complete their starter, often I check their homework for completion. We then go over the homework to be sure that the answers they found were accurate. From there, depending on the point in the week, students will either take notes adding to their concepts to learn for the week, or practice new skills with activities from the book or with fun games.

Five minutes before the end of each class, I ask reflective questions which students answer on note cards. These note cards allow me to revise plans according to student needs.

At the end of the day, I may have grades to tally or enter in gradebooks or need to replace materials in their places. Three days a week, I offer tutoring for those struggling with concepts new or old.

Sometimes I will have hallway monitoring duty in between, but that is mostly my day, from approximately 7:30 to 4:30.

First, you must continuously lobby to get kids to sign up for your class--protect job security.

Next, you must learn to accept kids mutilating the Spanish language--they can't speak it.

Then, you must learn how to teach the same simple words over and over and over until you go mad trying to figure out why kids can't learn the simplest pronunciation.

Finally, be flexible to translate the language in the front office and at parent-teacher conferences because many administrators and teachers can't speak the language either.

my spanish teacher makes us do yoga, sing a song, and do a dance before actually starting the lesson. I don't know how effective it is since everyone has Bs and Cs in the class and that we're all 17..
