I've answered questions about the greatest guitarists and drummers, so I'll ask who are the greatest bassists ever. My list (in no particular order): John Paul Jones(Zeppelin), Adam Clayton(U2), Sting(with the Police), Nile Rodgers(Chic), Flea(Chili Peppers), Fieldy(Korn), just to name a few. Who else you got?

James Newsted and Cliff Burton, from Metallica. If Cliff hadn't died, he'd have been a legend. He still is, but he would have been great. As far as Newsted, if he hadn't left Metallica and they didn't get soft, they'd still be #1. I don't like any of their albums after And Justice For All.

Eric Avery. His bass was the most magical part of Jane's Addiction. The bassline in Ted Just Admit It is the s*it for sure.

Flea and Les Claypool make their bass do craziness no one else seems to be able to do. Not a Primus fan, but I can appreciate the innovation.

How about Kim Gordon from Sonic Youth?

Niles Rogers from Chic. With John Taylor from Duran Duran running second. But then of course, Taylor was heavily influenced by Rogers.
