We are there because we spent the 1980s arming and funding the Taliban in hopes that they could expel the Russians, which they did. So, we made them strong, and Bin Laden was our friend. Then he got pissed off because we helped Israel kill 20,000 Lebanese, so he attacked us. So now we're trying to disband the very strong organization we built up during the cold war.

Afghanistan used to be the location of a major training facility for terrorists who then entered world-wide operations. Camps like these have been discovered in Iraq, Somalia and the Sudan, as well.

We're there because if we leave, they'll open up training again and we can't allow that to happen.
