Why is platinum more expensive than gold?

What drives platinum to be so expensive?

Almost 3 times more gold than platinum is mined every year...platinum is actually more plentiful than gold, but usually in found in tiny particles, widely dispersed across rocky areas, and very deep, so it is difficult and expensive to mine.

Gorgeous though, huh?
