The book is about the authors experience with his pets and other animals throughout his life, the book is extremely funny and I believe it has a pink cover,

I don't think it was all things great and small, it wasn't about a vet or anything like that, it was just a guys observation of animals and their attitudes, extremely funny

Sounds like All Things Great and Small to me. Was the guy a vet? Even if it wasn't you should dtill read the book.

Could be Buster Lloyd-Jones' "The Animals Came in One by One", or possibly Gerald Durrell's "My Family and Other Animals".

Was it "My Life in Dog Years" by Gary Paulsen? In it he writes about all the dogs he had and knew. It's touching and funny.
