I disagree with a lot of what people are saying, but honestly you need to visit the campuses to see which one fits you best.

When I was in high school I thought I wanted to go to UCLA-- I thought it would be diverse, surrounded by interesting people, and have lots of awesome parties. On paper it was everything I wanted. However, when I went to visit I absolutely HATED it. It was really weird because I was so sure that UCLA was the place for me. I then let my mom drag me to every other school I got admitted to, including Berkeley. As soon as I stepped out of the car I knew I wanted to go to Cal. Two years later I still know I made the right decision and I couldn't be happier. I love the campus, the faculty, and the city (minus the transients). My point is, take everyone's information and opinions into consideration, but realize that just because a school sounds like a great place doesn't mean that it will be the right fit for you. I know a lot of people (including some at Cal) that chose their school based on statistics and others' opinions and now they really regret it. Visit as many campuses as possible (side note: if you're interested in Cal then I'd highly recommend coming for Cal Day) and remember that only you can decide which school is the best for you.

Best of luck!

Best Campus: UCLA (small enough to walk everywhere, big enough to have everything, and BEAUTIFUL if you don't include all the science buildings)

Most Diverse Student Population: Davis and San Diego: You get a little bit of everyone pretty much. At UCLA and UCB, there are have been charges that the campuses aren't diverse enough.

Surrounded by fun things to do: UCLA (best part of LA, plus easy access to Westwood Village, Santa Monica and of course the rest of LA), however Berkeley is a close second (while Berkeley the town itself is a bit grungy, there are a lot of things to do there, and San Francisco is an amazing city)

Best Parties: UC Santa Barbara, hands down.

At any UC you're going to be at a large university (well, except maybe Merced, solely because it's new and only has about 4,000 students per class, and has only had 2 classes so far). You'll have to deal with bureaucracy and the like. However you'll have many more opportunities than your peers at smaller schools, especially in terms of classes and research opportunities, or even in terms of guest speakers and such. Also, you'll have GREAT athletic spirit at Cal and 'LA, and of course just the names "Berkeley, UCLA, and UCSD" carry TONS upon TONS of weight in terms of getting a job/getting into grad school.

Best Campus: Santa Barbara and San Diego tie for the most beautiful, tropical surroundings; Davis has country charm and UCLA has city appeal (depending on which you prefer), Irvine has a nice campus; Berkeley smells and is surrounded by bums.

Most diverse student population: UCLA, then Berkeley, then Irvine.

Fun things to do: UCLA, San Diego, Berkeley, Irvine.

Best Parties: for hotties and glamour, go UCLA; for kegs and naked miles, go Davis.

Personally I preferred UCLA, but it depends on what YOU enjoy - city or country? diversity or focus? nature or city lights? outdoors or indoors? relaxed or exciting?

I have been to all of them.

Davis and Santa Barbara are both somwhat isolated - but have kickin parties because there is nothing else to do. SB has a killer beach vibe. Davis has a beautiful campus, but you gotta like that small town feel.

UCLA and Berkeley are in the middle of cities. Berkeley (the city) is kinda gross but the campus is nice and historic. UCLA is HUGE but in a nice part of LA - Westwood. There is a lot to do around both these campuses.

SD is in La Jolla super close to the beach, but another HUGE campus. Nice weather, pretty place, beachy.

This one is easy;

Which has the best campus? UCLA--just take a look

Which has the most diverse student population? UCLA--consider the local community

Which is surrounded by fun things to do? UCLA--It's Los Angeles!

Which has the best parties? UCLA--ditto

Good Luck....
