The storyline is that Paul Bearer who used to be The Undertaker's manager told the story of The Undertaker's family. According to Paul, The Undertaker had a younger brother named Kane who "disappeared" when the family's house caught on fire....Kane and The Undertakers parents were killed in the fire but Kane somehow escaped.
Kane blamed the Undertaker for what happened to him and to their family. When Paul and The Undertaker began to have problems Paul brought Kane to the WWE and that's how their feud began.
Kane was revealed to be the result of a furtive union between The Undertaker's mother and Paul Bearer, an employee at the funeral home in Death Valley owned by The Undertaker's parents. When Kane and The Undertaker were children, The Undertaker "accidentally" burned down the funeral home, killing their parents and hideously scarring Kane both physically and mentally (the parents of The Undertaker are supposedly buried somewhere on Long Island; during an episode of RAW taped on Long Island, Kane and Bearer ostensibly exhumed their bodies and brought them to the arena). Bearer, who survived the fire, hid Kane in a mental asylum as he grew up and went on to form an alliance with The Undertaker (the details of "Kane's" early life were recounted in the book Journey into Darkness). After suffering mistreatment at the hands of The Undertaker, Bearer opted to bring Kane in to the WWF in order to gain vengeance upon The Undertaker.

After Wrestle Mania 13, Paul Bearer revealed that the Undertaker had burned his family's house, killing everyone except his brother. He announced that Undertaker's brother was still alive, waiting for revenge all these years. In defence, Undertaker responded that Kane, a pyromaniac, had set the fire and that his brother could not have survived. That's mostly it in a nutshell, the entire story has been rewritten so many times though to fit whatever the WWE wants it to at the time.

Undertaker sopposly killed his whole family. But he did not kill Kane. Kane was angry and wanted to kill Undertaker. Undertaker did not want to fight Kane. Kane wanted to fight Undertaker, but Undertaker said no Kane made Undertaker made and for the frist time at Wrestlemania 14 Kane and Undertaker fought. Undertaker won.
