Heroes can be role models, but to be a hero, you have to accomplish something. Athletes who compete in the Olympics could probably be considered heroes because they represent our nation. But when it comes to basketball players, football players or baseball players, these athletes are only envied for the money and fame they achieve. They don't do anything for the common good.

Being a hero doesn't mean they have to save people. An athlete can be a hero. They give hope to the disabled and handicapped and can leave impressions on other people. They "save" people because they might impact one or more persons lives. These people may be influenced to live out their life's dream or to do something great in their life. A hero is a peson who impacts someone's life either by rescuing them or by getting them to do great things

Not at all athletes are not heroes at all. Just look at athletes like Mike Tyson, Terrell Owens and Barry Bonds. All 3 athletes are not only terrible "heroes" they are also terrible role models. Then look at people like Joe Montana and Donovan McNabb they are both my heroes and role models.

You said it all right there.
But to be fair here are more heroes
The man who travels 25 miles to work, works 8-10 hours, comes home, plays with the kids, spends time with them and loves his wife.
The mother who goes to work after getting the kids off to school, comes home to an empty house to clean up, fix meals, get the kids ready the next day. that is a hero.
The cop, on the corner, or crusing the neighborhood so we can be outside. Hero
The guy who stands up and defends a person who is saying something he totally disagrees with, because it is the other guys right, hero.

They are not good role models either.
Good role models have concern for thier fans and do not do things in the public that are taken to be anti anything,
