I live in California and I'm a senior in high school. Until now I was planning to go to a community college after I graduate so I didn't take my SATs because I thought I wouldn't really need it. I have pretty good grades (about 3.8 GPA), and I was wondering if taking the SATs are required to go a State college or even a UC. Is it too late to apply for Fall? Can I get in for Spring? If it's possible, how would I go about doing that?

I would go ahead and see if you could take the SATs. Talk to your guidance counselor, there is probably a community college that offers the tests to people like you who at the last minute change their mind. Then once you pass the SAT you can apply to UC, or any other college that suits your fancy. Good luck, and don't be afraid to ask. =) PS-Congratulations as well about graduation!!

Unfortunately, UC has really early application deadlines (Nov. 30), and each of their schools require the SAT (and 2 SAT 2's). Really bizarre, I didn't apply to any schools that required applications before January, and one of my friends decided she didn't want to go to the one school she applied to (never a good idea to apply to one school) around now and applied to a different college. I'm not sure about midyear acceptances for UC, but if you want to find out or look for another college, just go to the College Board website, a great resource for seniors.

Either the SAT or ACT, plus 2 SAT II exams are requisites for eligibility for the University of California system. The application period for the UCs has passed (ended at the end of November). I'm not sure about Cal-State though.

Go talk to the guidance department in your high school. Most schools require the SAT but its not too late to apply for fall registration at a lot of colleges.

but definitely seek help from the counsellors. its what they do.
