Is there software I can get to extend the range of the Pictochat for Nintendo DS?

Nope. Unfortunately, it only supports ds-to-ds communication. But Clubhouse Games has a wifi Pictochat feature, with color as well. Not to mention all the awesome games and wifi play. :P It's about as close as you'll get.
