in other words the worms i dug up from my yard and placed in my bed are dying but my reds and nightcrawlers are thriving just fine...any ideas?? i'm open to all suggestions i just don't want to keep adding earthworms if they are gonna keep dying.

Find yourself a very cool and damp shady area, dump all your coffee grounds (and the ones you can wheedle from your neighbors) there put a sprinkle of non self rising corn meal on top, then cover with porous cloth,rags. or any fabric that will 'breath' add keep this area real damp but not wet. follow these instructions and you will soon have night crawlers galore!Keep adding coffee grounds and meal to the bed. Then put some worms in your flower bed.They will cultivate it for you!

Normal earthworms like a soil pH of 6.5 to 7.0 the redworms can handle it a little more acidic

Earthworms just don't do well in a bin. But if you have a compost pile, you'll always have a ready supply of earthworms under it.
