I am looking to open a salon/spa. I have my cosmetology license from a world renowned academy of cosmetology; and I am also looking into getting my Massage practitioners license, so that I can offer many different services. I would offer : Massages, Aromatherapy, Facials, Manicures, Pedicures, Waxing, Haircuts/Styles/Perms/Highlights ext.. all in one place, all done by me. It would be very private as I would not accept walk in clients, and would only have one client in the spa at a time because I know some people are not comfortable with spa settings, especially when they are busy! So... would you like a setting like that? Why or why not? Would you pay extra for more personal attention and a cosmetologist with a higher level of training? why or why not? What kind of services do you receive on a monthly/yearly basis and would you go more often if you had a good relationship and trust with your cosmetologist? Thank you!

The spa would look like any other spa... I would have a salon for haircuts/color, and another salon for massages/facials. It would be very private, comfortable, and spacious.

SAK: them not selling high priced products has nothing to do with the cost of your haircut.. after all, the products are not included in the cost of your haircut. Often times baber shop/chain store Cosmetoligist have inferior skills. Not always, just most of the time. The reason? High end salons train their workers, even after school, for usually another year or so. They send them to more training, seminars, trade shows. they only hire THE BEST (Based on instructer input as well as their performance). Lower end salons rent a stall to the stylist. as long as she/he has the money- they get the stall. High end salons do not "rent" a stall to their stylist, instead they are more than renters, they are part of the salon family, and therfor have more accountability to their salon and to you. They have better insurance coverage (in case they were to mess up your hair) and they work in better conditions, which equals a happier stylist and a better haircut! Hope that makes sense...
