I have to do this often since my kitchen, dining area, hall, and bathrooms are all grouted. Normally I get a spray bottle of half ammonia, half water. (This works better than bleach, trust me.) Spray it on the grout, and then scrub with an old toothbrush back and forth along the grout until it looks a little lighter (it will lighten more when it dries). Since I'm pregnant, I've had to find a safer alternative... the heavy duty mr. clean magic erasers work wonders. They just don't hold up very well and I have to use several to do a whole floor. But they do go a little faster.

Never use clorox. I used it and it cleaned the grout along with eating the grout. Now I have ugly spots on my kitchen counter where the grout looks awful. There is a product you can buy at Publix that will clean it.

A horrible tedious job!!!! Spray bleach & leave. Us a toothbrush for the more stubborn areas.
I think there is also a product you can buy - like a pen, that paints over the grout to rewhiten it.
good luck & wear a mask if its in an enclosed area

oxi clean. make a paste kind of solution and rub into grout. leave for a while and scrub with toothbrush.
you can also buy a pen which is probably easier and less time consuming.

I had some grout that had cracked, replaced last year, and
the people who did it said to NEVER, EVER, use bleach
on it. They're the pros, so I trust them. They said to use
a bathroom cleaner with no bleach in it. Or to use vinegar.
I use "The Works" bathroom cleaner or "Awesome" all-purpose cleaner on it, either of these I get at Dollar Tree
or Target.

I used paint remover. It took a long time but the results were astounding. Now, 10 years later it still looks great.
