wife and i would like to go to a yankee game. we live in NC - if we drive up, could we stay 30-40 miles out and then drive to the stadium? or is that not a good idea? where would we park, how safe is it?

When you near New York State (you will be coming from New Jersey) stay on I-95 ( it will turn into the New Jersey Turnpike) to the George Washington Bridge. Cross the bridge into New York. Keep your eyes out for I-87 south, (it's called the Major Deegan Expressway). About 2 miles south (you will see signs) is Yankee Stadium. The Police (they are always out in force on a game day) will direct you to parking. It is more than safe. I have been going for over 30 years and never had a problem. Go to this map and you will see the directions I gave you are valid.

If you really want to stay somewhere other than The City (although I dont know why you would), as you leave the stadium head north on 87. You will cross a bridge called The Tappan Zee. If you travel an additional 4 or 5 miles after crossing you'll see exits for Nyack, New York. It's a smaller town and there plenty of shopping including one of the largest malls in the country (the mall is visable from 87 on your left). There is also a Holiday Inn on your right. Exit 12 is the mall I think. The Holiday Inn is exit 14b. Go to this link for the Holiday Inn.

Use this interactve map to cruise the area online, don't forget you will be on I-87!

Stay in Manhattan..the Hyatt near Grand Central Station on 42nd.St. between Lex and Park. That's where the visiting clubs usually stay. Take the subway to get to the game. You can take the 4 train at 42nd. and Lex. and get off right outside Yankee Stadium at 161st. St.

Don't listen to them about getting mugged or anything. If you really do feel unsafe there are lots of hotels in the Newburgh area which is 75 miles from the Bronx.I wouldn't worry about it.There is a hotel just a few block from the stadiumI believe it is a Holiday Inn.The stadium is just off I-87,you can see it from there and there are tons of signs leading the way.

Amazes me how the great Yankee Stadium is in such a crummy section of New York. Be sure to get some good life insurance before you go to the game.

Maybe you should wait until they build the new stadium...oh wait, they're building it right next door...

Steinbrenner really cares about his fans. If you manage to survive, enjoy your $12 Beer and $9.00 hot dog.

Becareful I'm a Yankee's fan and I wouldn't ever go to a game in Yankee's stadium without some serious protection in the form of large buff guys....

I've been to a Yankee game from out of state and I got mugged(guy pointed a gun to my head), I'd stay away from the Bronx, perhaps you could get a hotel 50 miles out in the surburbs and go to the game on gameday to aviod being mugged?

Dont listen to the person who told you about Newburgh. It is the most violent city in New York based on population. If you want crack go to Newburgh, if you want to stay in a hotel go somewhere in westchester or rockland counties
