The most important piece of advice I could offer is to not limit your options to a few search engines.

1. Register with the local unemployment office. They often receive job postings before/only from companies that are hiring for federal/state contracts.

2. Networking is key. Most cities have informal groups where IT professionals meet on a monthly basis. I've heard about many positions through those settings.

3. Depending on the software or technology you work with there are often online groups to discuss common issues and new conferences on the horizon. Join and make yourself known to the group.

4. While searching, move beyond Monster, CraigsList and Careerbuilder. Indeed.com is a very good resource because they aggregate feeds from all the major job search engines.

5. Organize your job search. There are some online tools that will assist in tracking your job search history, contact management and applications.

Best of Luck,
Michael

Don't work or look for a job! Start your own proven and lucrative home-based business with huge incentives to inculde tax deductions. Don't trade time for money (linear pay) Get paid "residual" money with a huge bonus plan. Don't make another company rich, help yourself, then help others. I'll "show" you live on the internet and answer your questions, then you can make an educated decision if it is for you or not. Fair enough? Contact me if interested. so you'll at least know. Thanks!
