Anyone ever gotten the: "Oh, you like to write? I could write if I wanted to, I just never have the time"

Or how about: "It would be nice if we could all do what we wanted, but some of us live in the real world"
Is it so unrealistic to write? There are thousands of pieces published every day! Some one out there is getting paid...

My biggest problem is all the people out there who say that they're writing a book, or "the next great american novel," and that they'll get rich off of doing nominal work.
Well guess what? You're not going to get rich, and it's hard work, very hard work. Writing is stressful stuff, but if you really like to do it, the rewards are worth it. I put as much time into my writing as someone with a 9 to 5 desk job, if not more, but people still just kind of smile and say "sure" whenever I say I'm writing a novel.
There seem to be a lot of these people here, anyone asking for ideas for a novel or titles for their book, or character names. If you can't come up with these things on your own, you will never make it. And it's not like you write one book and you are instantly made, you need to write dozens to survive, and most writers will have a second job where they get a lot of their income.

I'm very self-conscious about telling people I write, until recently when my short fiction was published. But when I mention that I'm a writer, the response I dislike most is when the other person says, "I've had this idea for a book I'd like to write..." and they proceed to tell me about it. What annoys me most is that everyone thinks they are a writer just because they journal or they have had "book ideas." But I work my butt off; I write every day, I attend conferences, classes, workshops and participate in online writer's organizations and local critique groups. I'm collaborating on one book with a friend and have written several novels and short stories which I'm attempting to publish. So I think it diminishes what I do when every Jack, Joe or Jane I meet tells me they write or have ideas for books. I just want to say, "You're not really a writer, though."

It's more like what you tell them, what you write about, not that you write. I'd have to say that people inquire as to the fact that ,"Do you have anything published?". If I had anything published I'd totally brag about it. The other thing that I would have to say that can be annoying now that you ask is, "Just because you are an artsy kinda person are you also a depressive?". I had to say, "Yes, your nosy questions are pissing me off and making me angry. So yeah, I guess that I gotta mood problem, because I was fine until you started asking stupid questions."

When I have to write essays, people say it could be published in a news paper. But when I write stories, they say it's great. Writers can sometimes be troubled with the minds of the others who cannot use their imagination. I curse them!

The only people who know I write are a few collegues and family. I don't advertise that I write. Mostly because I know the things one must go through to be published. So for now, it's just a hobby! LOL

No one has ever said anything annoying to me. They ask me what I write and when they can read it. People are usually curious about writers - not mean.

The most annoying thing is when they try to tell you their idea of a story and then tell you they can't write, but it's okay if you use it.

when they say you have no life. IT PISSES ME OFF!!
As if, standing around at the mall and flirting with irritating men is "having a life" or guys who laugh at the most obvious "jokes"(if they can be called jokes-- more like stating the obvious) :@
