It is a mistake to confuse love and compassion with acceptance, Condoning any behaviour which could lead to control over another person is wrong, and this includes social and cultural practices.
It is very possible to love someone without accepting faulty standards. Jesus said "Love the sinner but hate the sin." (parahrase).
